Teamwork Debrief Guide

Lauralee Berrill - Tuesday, August 25, 2015

If you've ever tried to run a teambuilding activity or event within your own organisation you will know that the learning outcomes are not always in line with the initial objectives. The most effective way to facilitate learning from a group activity is to consider what are the elements of teamwork and then debrief accordingly using some very direct open ended questions. Here's a snippet of what we might use in such a scenario... hope you find it helpful!

Some elements of teamwork…..

  • Communication      Planning & Preparation    Collaboration         Goal Setting

  • Problem Solving                 Decision Making                 Task Organisation & Delegation

  • Time Management          Conflict Resolution      Reflection & Feedback

What happened? Give a brief account of what your team did?

Strengths? What elements did you observe as strengths of the team throughout today’s exercise? What did you do well as a team? Give examples of where you observed this!

Areas for development/improvement? What element(s) do you think the team could develop further in order to enhance the outcomes of today’s exercise? What could your team have done better? Give examples of where you observed this!

Learning Outcomes gained from the experience that can be applied to the workplace?
