If you've ever tried to run a teambuilding activity or event within your own organisation you will know that the learning outcomes are not always in line with the initial objectives. The most effective way to facilitate learning from a group activity is to consider what are the elements of teamwork and then debrief accordingly using some very direct open ended questions.
